According to the report, a large portion of the exit activity has taken place through M&As, with 131 of the total 159 acquisitions taking place during the last 5 years. On the other hand, companies in the segment have taken a longer time to go public with the average difference between IPO year and founding year being 13.25 years, as observed since 2011. This could be attributed to a number of reasons such as the hesitation of companies to go public due to the requirement of having to disclose IP and technologies. Another factor could be the fact that investor sentiment in the space is extremely bullish, and startups in the space which require high funds to invest in R&D, or acquisitions, have access to capital through VC investments.
